How to choose a suitable diesel generator

1、 Clear power requirements: avoid "big horse pulling small car" or "small horse pulling big car"

The power of a diesel generator is a core parameter that directly determines whether it can meet the electricity demand. When selecting, it is necessary to distinguish between rated power (continuous output power) and high power (short-term peak power). For example, if power needs to be supplied to factory equipment, the total power of all electrical appliances running simultaneously needs to be calculated, and a margin of 20% -30% should be reserved to meet the starting current or future expansion needs; If used for household emergency, the matching model should be selected based on the total power of commonly used appliances such as refrigerators and lighting.

Attention: Power false labeling is a common problem in the industry. Some manufacturers may label high power instead of rated power to reduce costs, resulting in long-term overload operation of equipment and shortened lifespan. It is recommended to prioritize products that have passed mandatory certification (such as CCC certification) and require manufacturers to provide power test reports.

2、 Select type based on usage scenario: fixed vs mobile

Diesel generators can be divided into two categories based on their usage scenarios: fixed and mobile. Fixed equipment is usually installed in computer rooms, equipped with noise reduction enclosures and cooling systems, suitable for long-term stable power supply scenarios (such as data centers and hospitals); Mobile devices adopt trailer or portable designs for quick deployment and are commonly used in outdoor construction, emergency rescue, and other scenarios.

For example, if construction sites need to frequently transfer equipment, a mobile generator with wheels and braking devices should be selected; The backup power supply for the shopping mall needs to be selected from fixed equipment and equipped with automatic switching devices (ATS) to ensure immediate start-up in case of power interruption. In terms of maintenance costs, attention should be paid to engine brands (such as Weichai, Yuchai and other domestic models with high cost-effectiveness, and imported models such as Cummins and Perkins with strong stability), filter replacement cycles, oil capacity and other parameters. It is recommended to choose equipment with modular design for quick replacement of vulnerable parts; At the same time, manufacturers are required to provide nationwide warranty services to reduce the difficulty of later maintenance.

4、 Additional features on-demand selection: avoid paying for unnecessary features

Modern diesel generators are often equipped with automation functions such as automatic start/stop, remote monitoring, and parallel operation. If used for household emergencies, basic equipment can meet the needs; If power supply is required for large factories, it is necessary to choose models with parallel operation function to achieve synchronous operation of multiple devices and improve power supply reliability.

In addition, noise reduction design is also an important consideration factor. The noise of a regular generator can reach over 90 decibels, and long-term use may affect health.
