Summary: Driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and the computing power industry, the construction of data and computing hubs has accelerated, bringing sustained growth in power demand. Leroy-Somer, a subsidiary of Nidec Corporation, a global leader in generator manufacturing, has launched its investment in Changzhou.

On September 17, the intelligent generator production base project for computing hubs was officially signed and settled in Tianning District. Li Baiping, Secretary of the Changzhou Municipal Party Committee, met with Briggs, Chairman of Nidec Motion & Energy Business Unit, and his entourage. District leaders Zhang Kaiqi, Li Hao and Chen Yifeng attended the meeting.

Li Baiping extended his welcome to Briggs and his team for their visit to Changzhou, and expressed gratitude to Nidec for choosing and investing in the city. He stated that Changzhou hosts China’s largest manufacturing base for UHV power transmission and transformation equipment, boasting a complete industrial chain that is highly aligned with Nidec’s business focus. The project will further strengthen the city’s industrial upstream and downstream coordination and product competitiveness. The municipal Party committee and government will continue to optimize the business environment and provide all-round high-quality services for the project. It is expected that Nidec will continue to deepen its presence in Changzhou, expand investment, and jointly build a stronger new power equipment industrial cluster in the city.

Briggs thanked the Changzhou municipal government for its attention and support for the project. He noted that Changzhou features a sound industrial chain and premium business environment, making it an ideal destination for corporate investment. The company will accelerate project construction to achieve production at an early date, fully responding to rising market demand. Nidec looks forward to advancing hand in hand with Changzhou and contributing to the upgrading and expansion of the district’s industrial cluster. Nidec Corporation is a world-leading comprehensive motor manufacturer, operating more than 350 companies across over 40 countries and regions. Its product portfolio ranges from precision small motors to ultra-large electromechanical equipment. The Motion & Energy Business Unit focuses on sustainable infrastructure and energy sectors, with over a century of experience in generator design and manufacturing, and more than 20 years of dedicated service to the data center industry. Its products are widely deployed in generator sets for data centers worldwide.

Leroy-Somer under Nidec is a century-old French industrial motor enterprise and the core brand for Nidec’s generator business. Its generator portfolio covers low, medium and high voltage products. Approximately one out of every four generators globally is made by Leroy-Somer. In the industrial and commercial generator segment, especially for data center applications, Leroy-Somer ranks first in global sales.

With a planned total investment of over 100 million US dollars, the project occupies about 150 mu of land to build a high-end intelligent generator production base. It will mainly manufacture industrial generators for data centers, computing hubs and other scenarios. The production base is scheduled to be put into operation in early 2028, with an estimated cumulative taxable sales revenue exceeding 20 billion yuan over the next decade.

This project marks Nidec’s new round of investment and capacity expansion in China. Nidec selected Tianning for its favorable business environment and industrial supporting capacity. It aims to leverage the district’s geographical and cluster advantages to strengthen its technological and market edge in the generator sector, drive the development of local upstream and downstream supporting enterprises such as electronic components and precision machining, and fully empower digital infrastructure development.
